Jan Zijlstra winner NRS Chiesi Young Investigator Award 2011
During the NRS Spring meeting, April 15th, 2011 Jan Zijlstra (UMCG, Dept. Pathology and Medical Biology) has won the NRS Chiesi Young Investigator Award! (see attached photo) The title of his abstract is: "IL-17A Induces Glucocorticoid insensitivity in airway epithelial cells". The motivation of the jury is: "Besides the quality and novelty of the study this is also a typical example of how important and applicable translational research can be: starting from a clinical problem it was investigated subsequently at a molecular level which signal transduction routes are involved. These results offer a new lead for therapeutical intervention.
Glucocorticosteroid insensitivity is a problem with far-reaching cinical consequences. The study of this problem in epithelial airway cells is novel. The implications of this research are applicable in more syndromes in Pulmonology and therefore this is an excellent winner of the Chiesi Award.
