NRS National Lung Course 2019

National course on lung diseases and lung research

The NRS National course on lung diseases and lung research aims at bringing basic and applied lung research in the Netherlands at a higher level by training young talented researchers. Participants will learn both the basics and state-of-the-art developments in the areas of (patho)physiology, treatment, methodologies, diagnosis, and career development. Disease areas that will be covered include asthma, allergy, interstitial lung diseases, orphan lung diseases, infectious diseases, COPD and lung cancer.

The main target groups of the course are PhD candidates (or Master students who are likely to start a PhD in the respiratory field in the next year) and postdoctoral fellows early on in their trajectories - NRS membership required - with either a basic science, translational or clinical background.

It will be a 3-day course (June 26-28, 2019), combined with two 1-day programs at the annual Young Investigator Symposium (YIS, usually in november). The program (in English) will consist of lectures, interactive workshops with researchers, patients and fellow participants, career development activities and a social program. Study load will be 140 hours, which is comparable to 5 ECTS points. A certificate and accreditation of the 5 ECTS will be provided after completion of the 3-day course and attendance (either in the future or in the past) of two Young Investigator Symposia. However, it is possible to only attend the 3-day course, without ECTS accreditation. Admission to the course is free (but NRS membership required) and 2 overnight stays, breakfasts & lunches and 2 dinners are included.
